PALEVIE COLOR GUIDE
How to Compare Colors with Your Phone Camera
Use a stable camera position, even light and unchanged display settings while you compare colors. Digital draping helps you view color beside your face, but it is not the same as real fabric reflecting light onto skin or a calibrated personal-color measurement.
Prepare the view before comparing
Face an even light source, keep the phone steady, and choose a plain background. Remove a hat or move hair away if it casts a strong shadow over the face. Avoid beauty filters for the comparison. Do not use direct sun or change rooms between options.
- Keep the same camera, distance and angle for both colors.
- Keep screen brightness at a comfortable, consistent level.
- If practical, temporarily disable display color-shifting modes and restore your normal settings afterward.
- Wait for the camera image to settle before judging a pair.
The screen is part of the comparison
Apple documents that True Tone adapts display color and intensity to ambient light, while Night Shift shifts the display toward warmer colors. These settings can change how the same digital swatch looks. Other devices have their own display controls.
A consistent setup improves comparability, not calibration. Research on smartphone photographs of skin-tone standards also found changes with viewing geometry. The same numeric color on two devices is not a promise of the same perceived result.
Use Palevie’s camera or mirror route
Open Live Color Draping and approve camera access when your browser asks. Compare the available colors beside your face and record which effect you observe, or choose Not sure when the difference is unclear. You do not need an account to try the comparison.
If the camera does not start inside another app, try opening the page in your regular browser and review that browser’s camera permission. The mirror route is available without camera access. A permission request alone does not mean that the live video has started.
Know what the guide is measuring
Palevie’s current live guide compares lightness contrast for a Soft/Bold effect. It does not automatically establish a warm/cool undertone or a four-season result. A changing exposure or heavy shadow is a reason to repeat or stop, not a reason to trust a stronger score.
The Live Draping and Virtual Try On camera features are designed to process frames on your device rather than upload face video. This statement concerns those live features; review the separate privacy information before using any other image feature. A digital overlay is not proof of how a fabric or cosmetic will look in person.

Common questions
Can I use Palevie without a camera?
Yes. The seven-question Quick Quiz and mirror comparison do not require live camera access. The quiz explores a starting color mood; it is not a measured face result.
Should I trust a result when the image keeps getting brighter?
Repeat the comparison with a steadier setup. An exposure change is not evidence that one color suits you better.
Does the digital drape behave exactly like real cloth?
No. It places displayed color beside the camera image. It does not reproduce all the reflected light, texture or viewing conditions of physical cloth.
